The Allen Bradley 20-COMM-D Series B DeviceNet communication module enables dependable network integration of PowerFlex drives in industrial automation systems. This high-performance adapter allows for smooth DeviceNet connectivity, including polled, cyclic, and change-of-state data interchange for precise motor control and monitoring.

The 20-COMM-D Ser B module is a powerful DeviceNet adapter designed specifically for PowerFlex 70, 700 series, 700H, 700S, 700L, 750, and other DPI-based devices such as SMC Flex controllers. It connects the drive’s DPI interface to DeviceNet networks, allowing master-slave or peer-to-peer communication via up to 30 TCP connections with a minimum RPI of 5 ms. This Series B firmware (2.xxx+) version, which is ideal for manufacturing and process control, provides improved interoperability, including DPI External Comms Kits, as well as three LED indications for quick DPI, module, and network status checks. Its flash-upgradable design assures long-term performance in demanding situations.

-> Supports a variety of I/O methods in DeviceNet networks, including polled, cyclic, and change-of-state.

-> Node address and data rate switches provide simple pre-power configuration, including parameter override via PGM mode.

-> Three tri-color LED status indicators track PORT (DPI), MOD (adapter), and NET A (network) for quick troubleshooting.

-> User-defined fault actions (such as Comm Flt Action and Idle Flt Action) prevent inadvertent drive pauses during disruptions.

-> Peer-to-peer and master-slave hierarchies allow for direct drive-to-drive communication without the use of a scanner.

Usage Guidelines:

• After powering down, install in a PowerFlex drive adapter slot or DPI External Comms Kit; use the supplied internal interface cable and fasten with captive screws.
• Before applying power, configure the node address (0-63, unique to each network) and data rate, and then connect a 5-pin DeviceNet connection for network integration.
• Configure the I/O size, fault actions, and LEDs using HIM, Connected Components Workbench, or DriveExplorer.
• Integrate with RSLogix controllers to enable ladder logic control of Logic Command/Reference and Datalinks; monitor via explicit messaging.
