Description
The Atlas Incinerators 66D4016 Float Level Switch is a low-level sensing device that is made to be installed inside the sludge oil treatment tank of Atlas marine incinerator systems. Its main job is to find dangerously low levels of sludge oil and send a separate electrical signal to the incinerator’s PLC control unit. This sets off a “Low Level Sludge Tank” alarm and starts an automatic shutdown sequence for the incinerator to avoid dry-fire conditions, pump cavitation, and uncontrolled burner operation.
It fits perfectly as a replacement part for Atlas incinerator models like the SL-WS and 600 SL-WS-P series. The 66D4016 works in a marine engine room environment where the temperature stays between 0 and 120°C. It is rated to IP Class 66, which means it is completely protected from high-pressure water jets and dust getting in. Both of these things are common stressors during a machinery space washdown cycle.
The unit is designed to keep contact reliable even when low-amplitude, high-frequency engine harmonics are sent through tank bulkheads. It also works in 60 Hz electrical grid environments without signal drift or false-trip events. This makes it perfect for fleet operations on ships that use US-standard power grids and the 50 Hz grids that are common on European and Asian-flagged tonnage.

Operational Reliability in the Marine Environment

The 66D4016 is not a general-purpose industrial float switch that has been modified for marine use. Instead, it is an OEM part that was made to work with Atlas incinerator sludge tanks. In practice, the switch needs to work reliably while it is submerged in thick, hot sludge emulsions that the mill pump constantly stirs up, causing turbulence, micro-vibration, and changes in pressure in the tank. Because it has an IP66 rating, condensation and spray won’t get into the switch body or electrical connections while cleaning the engine room. The unit is also tested to make sure it works without any problems.
