The Watlow Series 96 96A0-CAAU-AABA is a flexible 1/16 DIN microprocessor-based temperature controller that is used in a wide range of industrial heating applications. It has universal input, auxiliary input, and many output options for precise process control. This small gadget can do PID auto-tuning, ramp/soak programming, and communication. It’s perfect for ovens, extruders, and packing machines in factories.
The 96A0-CAAU-AABA is built for tough thermal management jobs. It has a universal sensor input for thermocouples, RTDs, or process signals, and outputs that may be set up to switch DC for alarms and control. The front panel is NEMA 4X/IP65, so it can handle tough washdown conditions. The fast 10 Hz sampling makes sure it works quickly and accurately up to 0.1%. It is easier to upgrade in the field and connect to PLC or SCADA systems through optional serial communications since it can work with power supplies that range from 100 to 240 VAC/DC and has pluggable modules.
This controller maximizes energy use and heater life in plastic processing, food manufacturing, and laboratory equipment. It supports heat/cool PID control, various setpoints, and event switching.
WATLOW 96 Functions:
- Universal Input 1 may read thermocouples (J, K, T, N, E, B, C, D), RTDs (Pt100 JIS/DIN), or process signals (0-10V, 4-20mA) with a span accuracy of ±0.1% and a sampling rate of 10 Hz.
- Four outputs that can be set up to do different things, such heating, cooling, alerts, or retransmitting. The architecture allows for easy expansion.
- Flexible automation with advanced PID auto-tune, TRU-TUNE adaptive control, ramp/soak profiles (up to 4 programs), and the ability to set the setpoint from a distance using an auxiliary input.
- Infinity key interface, dual-line LED display (0.4″ PV on top and 0.24″ SV on bottom), and non-volatile memory that keeps settings even when the power goes out.
- Rugged 1/16 DIN panel-mount design (52x52mm bezel) with a front that is NEMA 4X/IP65, an operating range of 0 to 65°C, and universal power from 100 to 240V AC/DC.

Usage Guidelines
-> Use a panel clamp to mount the device in a 1/16 DIN cutout. Then, connect the power to terminals 1–3, the sensor to terminals 4–7, and the output loads to the right blocks, making sure the polarity is correct for DC output.
-> Use the front keys to choose the kind of input, auto-tune the PID, set the alarm thresholds, and turn on ramp/soak for process profiles. Then, check the calibration using standard sources.
-> For SSR drive or tiny loads, use switched DC Output 1. For inductive loads, add suppression, and for heater break detection, use an optional CT to monitor current.
-> If your device has EIA-232/485, use it to connect to Modbus. Keep the factory settings at first and calibrate it once a year in steady conditions.
