KFD2-UFC-EX1.D Product Overview:
The KFD2-UFC-Ex1 from Pepperl+Fuchs.D is a 1-channel frequency converter that is safe to use on its own and has built-in trip values for accurate signal conditioning in dangerous regions. It changes frequency or pulse signals from NAMUR sensors or dry contacts into a proportional 0/4–20 mA analog output and at the same time gives customizable switching outputs for limit monitoring.
This isolated barrier is made to be mounted on the K-System Power Rail. It provides galvanic isolation between the field and control circuits, which makes measurements more reliable and safe. It has built-in trip value features, line fault detection, and customizable parameterization through a keypad or PACTware software, which makes it perfect for counting, flow, and speed applications in process automation.
Features of KFD2-UFC-EX1.D frequency Converter:
1) 1-channel isolated barrier that is safe for Ex-ia IIC applications and has a 24 V DC Power Rail supply.
2) It can take frequency inputs from NAMUR sensors or dry contacts over a wide range of 0.001 Hz to 5 kHz.
3) It has a 0/4–20 mA analog output as well as relay and transistor trip outputs for process control and min/max alarms.
4) Integrated line fault detection, start-up override, and restart inhibit for safe, standards-compliant operation.
5) You may easily set it up using the front keypad or PACTware/DTM. It shows the trip value and has several output options (serial, pulse divider, error output).

KFD2-UFC-EX1.D Programming Manual
Where This Frequency Converter Excels
-
Flow and volume measurement using turbine meters, paddle wheels, or other pulse‑based flow sensors in hazardous zones, converting pulses to a standard 4–20 mA signal for PLC/DCS.
-
Speed and RPM monitoring on rotating equipment, using NAMUR proximity sensors or contacts for overspeed and underspeed trip functions.
-
Counting and batching applications where frequency or pulse rates must be monitored with configurable trip thresholds and relay outputs for control.
-
General process safety interlocks in chemical, oil & gas, and pharmaceutical plants, combining measurement and trip alarms in one compact barrier.
Usage Guideline:
- Connect the 24 V DC power source to the Power Rail or front terminals according to the wiring schematic, and then connect the NAMUR sensor or dry contact to the right input terminals.
- Use the front keypad or PACTware to adjust the measuring range, output mode (0/4–20 mA), and trip values. Make sure the trip points match the setpoints for your process.
- To securely add to your alarm or shutdown system, give relay and transistor outputs jobs like min/max alarm, pulse divider, or error signaling.
- Turn on line fault detection and start-up override as needed so that breakage in the cable, short circuits, and start-up transients are securely handled and sent to the control system.
