Hyundai HiMSEN H25/33 Cooling Jacket
The Hyundai HiMSEN H25/33 Cooling Jacket is an important component designed to enhance the heat transfer efficiency in the cylinder block assembly of medium-speed marine diesel engines. The water cooling jacket is specifically built for the H25/33 series. It is located around the top zone of the cylinder liner where peak combustion temperatures occur.
It ensures even heat dissipation, therefore preventing localised hotspots and protecting critical internal components from early distortion and minimises the possibility of thermal stress. This ensures great structural reliability and low lubricating oil usage in heavy duty auxiliary generator or propulsion operation.

Compatibility & Application
This cooling jacket is fully compatible across all variations of the Hyundai HiMSEN 250mm bore / 330mm stroke modular engine platforms, configured as:
- 6H25/33, 7H25/33, 8H25/33, 9H25/33 (In-line marine auxiliary power gen-sets)
- HiMSEN Propulsion variants utilizing the H25/33 framework
Applications
- Ocean-Going Auxiliary Engines: Main cooling system of the on-board marine diesel generator sets (Gen-sets).
- Commercial Propulsion: Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) or Marine Gas Oil (MGO) driven stationary and marine main propulsion units.
- Offshore Power Generation High-reliability power systems for offshore oil rigs, drillships and FPSO platforms.
Engineering Advice for Chiefs & Second Engineers
When overhauling the H25/33 cylinder assembly, the cooling jacket is often overlooked in favor of the liner. However, failing to properly service or inspect the jacket is a leading cause of premature liner deformation and sudden O-ring blowouts.
The Overhaul Checklist:
- Check for Cavitation Erosion: Always inspect the lower internal lands of the cooling jacket for “pitting” or cavitation. If cavitation deepens beyond 1.5mm, local hotspots can occur, transferring uneven thermal stresses to the liner wall.
- O-Ring Landing Maintenance: Before slipping the cooling jacket over the liner, ensure the landing grooves on the liner and the mating faces of the jacket are perfectly clean. Any microscopic rust or scale left behind will compromise the sealing integrity of the silicone/viton O-rings, risking jacket cooling water contamination into your crankcase oil.
- Water Treatment Mandatory: Ensure your engine jacket water treatment (nitrite/borate based inhibitors) is maintained strictly within the 1500–3000 ppm range. Poor water treatment results in calcium scaling inside the jacket, drastically lowering heat transfer rates and triggering high exhaust gas temperature (EGT) alarms.
