  1. Control Fuel Temperature Changes When transitioning from HFO to MDO or vice-versa keep the temperature gradient less than 2°C per minute. Thermal stress might result in the pump plunger expanding faster than the barrel therefore causing rapid pump seizure or “stiction.”
  2. Watch the Leakage Return Line. Watch the high-pressure leak-off lines from the fuel pump carefully. Sudden rise in drain volume is indicative of plunger-barrel clearance wear or a failed O-ring seal. Both can compromise combustion quality and result in exhaust smoke and high exhaust gas temperatures (EGT).
  3. Lubricating Oil Integrity: Make sure your auxiliary lube oil feed to the pump roller guides is free from obstruction. This region is killed by fuel dilution and the border lubrication layer is destroyed and camshaft lobe and roller wear is accelerated.
