Industrial Applications

Engineer’s Maintenance Guide:

Follow these engineering best practices to get the most use out of your BSM 713-4-1:

  1. Check Alignment: Make sure that the motor shaft and pump shaft are perfectly lined up. Misalignment is the main reason why seals fail early and bearings wear out.
  2. First, never let the pump run dry. A “dry start” can still score the gear faces, even though it is self-priming. Before the first start, always wet the gears with the process fluid.
  3. Packing Adjustment: If your model uses compression packing, let a small drip (about 10 drops per minute) cool and lubricate the shaft. Don’t tighten too much.
  4. For suction filtration, always put a strainer (60–100 mesh) on the suction side to keep metal shavings and other debris from getting into the gear chamber.
  5. Check every so often for changes in noise or vibration. When the “whine” gets louder, it usually means that air or cavitation is getting into the suction line.
