Agilent TV-401/301 Turbomolecular Pump – 8698928R004
The Agilent TV-401/301 functions as a high-vacuum secondary stage for gas analysis and leak detection systems. It integrates directly with Honeywell Safety Manager and Schneider Acti9 power distribution frameworks for remote monitoring. This 2024 manufacturing run utilizes a MacroTorr stage design to maintain high compression ratios for light gases. It interfaces with shipboard automation via the RS-232/485 serial link to the main PLC.
Marine-grade reliability depends on the unit’s ability to withstand continuous engine harmonics. The 8698928R004 features a Monolithic Rotor machined from a single aluminum alloy block. This construction prevents mechanical drift during 60Hz grid fluctuations. The IP54-rated onboard controller protects internal circuitry from high-humidity engine room environments. Ceramic bearings operate without liquid lubricants to prevent contamination during heavy pitch and roll.

Maintenance Guide:
- Use a calibrated 1/4-inch drive torque wrench to tighten the ISO-K 160 inlet flange bolts to exactly 10Nm.
- While the unit is off, use a non-conductive probe to check the internal bearings of the cooling fan for resistance.
- Use a lint-free, anti-static cloth and 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean the thermal interface between the pump body and the heat sink.
- Use a Fluke 87V multimeter to check the resistance of the bake-out heater (if it has one) to make sure it stays within ±5% of the factory Ohmic values.
- Use the Agilent A-Plus configuration tool to save the pump’s “Time-to-Speed” and “Bearing Temperature” records so you can see how wear is changing over time.
- At 500VDC, megger-test the chassis-to-earth bonding to make sure the M5 grounding stud stays below 0.1 Ohms.
- Set the IAS (Integrated) against the analog output signal (0–10V).
Our Pro Tips:
On vessels with high-speed diesel generators, the Agilent controller is susceptible to terminal creep. Constant micro-vibrations cause the copper strands in the power input terminal block to compress and loosen over time. This creates a high-resistance junction that generates localized heat, eventually melting the plastic housing without tripping a breaker. During every inspection, use a 1.5Nm torque screwdriver to re-seat the Schneider Acti9 supply lines. Do not rely on a visual check; physical tension verification is the only way to prevent “thermal runaway” at the connector.
