B&R 8LSA44.DB060S300-3 AC Servo Motor (Revision C9)
The B&R Industrial Automation 8LSA44.DB060S300-3 is a high-performance synchronous servo motor from the renowned 8LSA series. The Rev C9 machine has an EnDat 2.2 encoder interface that can be used with ACOPOS drive designs. It integrates with Honeywell Safety Manager SIS to make it easier to set up the fuel rack for emergency shutdown (ESD) procedures. The engine management system on the boat is designed to run at 3000rpm, and at that speed, the motor gives off 4.1Nm of torque.
The system works well because its enclosure is IP64-rated, which means it keeps out air with salt in it and 95% humidity that doesn’t condense. The internal neodymium magnets are safe against power drops and 60Hz grid changes that happen a lot when the water is choppy or the bow thruster is on. The windings are shielded so they can handle temperatures up to 155°C. This means that it can run all the time, even in engine rooms where the temperature is always 45°C. The way the Series 8LSA is built stops low-speed diesel engine harmonics from causing mechanical resonance.

- Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) Systems: These are the most important parts that move the fuel racks on huge diesel engines. The EnDat 2.2 encoder with high resolution makes sure that the pilot and main injection events happen at the proper times. This has a direct effect on how well the engine meets the criteria for NOx and SOx emissions.
- Active Heave Compensation (AHC) is a function of the control loops that run the winches and cranes on offshore construction ships. The motor keeps the boat from going too fast, which retains the cargo on the sea floor in the same spot even when the water is more than 3 meters deep.
- This regulates the butterfly valves and high-speed dampers in SCR and scrubber units. It can handle heat and is IP64-rated, so it’s safe to use near very hot exhaust uptakes.
- Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS) are the parts that open and close valves at different ports. It makes sure that the changes to the flow rate are proper when a lot of volume is being de-ballasted. This keeps pressure spikes from happening in the ship’s plumbing.
