The Aquametro VZO 40 FL 130/25 is a rotary piston flow meter made particularly for use in industry and on the water. This flanged model (FL) is part of the well-known CONTOIL® family. I’ve seen many VZO 40s outlast the ships they were installed on. The secret isn’t just the Swiss engineering—it’s the installation. The rotary piston is a precision instrument; if you feed it ‘trash,’ it will seize.

1. Filtration is King. Always install a 0.1mm (100 micron) strainer upstream. Even a small piece of scale from an old pipe can jam the piston.
2. Avoid air pockets. Ensure the meter is installed at a low point in the piping or in a vertical rise. If air passes through the meter, it will spin the piston at high speeds, leading to ‘ghost’ readings and premature wear.
3. Thermal Expansion. If you are using this in a closed loop with a heater, ensure there is a pressure relief valve in the system to prevent static pressure spikes from damaging the meter internals.
