Description

Goulds 10SV2FE4F50 e-SV Series Vertical Multi-Stage Pump with 2 HP Motor (3450 RPM)

The Goulds Water Technology 10SV2FE4F50 is a vertical multistage centrifugal pump engineered for high-pressure fluid transfer, continuous booster service, and precision process loops. Built upon Xylem’s hydraulic architecture, this unit couples a 2-stage pump end fabricated from AISI 304 stainless steel with a high-efficiency 2 HP, 2-pole, 3450/3500 RPM electric motor.

The in-line suction and discharge port layout integrates into vertical pipe risers and packaged booster skids, significantly cutting down mechanical footprint compared to horizontal configurations. Designed with an accessible seal chamber, the mechanical seal can be serviced or replaced without detaching the drive motor, reducing routine plant maintenance downtime. Every unit is factory-assembled, dynamically balanced, and pressure-tested to meet industrial duty cycles.

Key Features

  1. High-Hydraulic Efficiency Impeller Stack: Precision deep-drawn, laser-welded AISI 304 stainless steel impellers deliver smooth hydraulic passageways, cutting parasitic shear losses and lowering operating power draw.
  2. Quick-Service Seal Replacement: The mechanical seal cartridge design permits maintenance technicians to replace wear rings and shaft seals without uncoupling or lifting the drive motor from the base.
  3. Axial Thrust Minimization: Integrated hydraulic balancing reduces axial load transmitted to the motor bearings, extending motor life and allowing pairing with standard NEMA TC-face drives.
  4. Rugged Viton / SiC Sealing System: Fitted with factory-installed Viton (FKM) secondary seals and silicon carbide faces to resist thermal cycling, scaling, and low-concentration process chemicals up to 250°F.
  5. Continuous In-Line Flanged Design: Symmetrical 2-inch ANSI round flanges enable direct drops into existing process pipe runs without complex offset elbows or manifold modifications.

Applications

  • Commercial & Marine Pressure Boosting: Potable fresh water networks, sanitary service, deck-wash booster systems, and accommodation pressure sets.
  • Boiler Feed & Condensate Handling: Low-to-medium pressure boiler feedwater injection and condensate return circulation loops.
  • Membrane Separation Systems: Reverse Osmosis (RO) pre-treatment boost, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration system pressurization.
  • Industrial Cooling & Thermal Control: Cooling tower heat-exchanger supply, chiller transfer loops, and injection-mold cooling circuits.
  • Washing, Spray & CIP Skids: High-velocity CIP clean-in-place flush systems, parts washers, and food & beverage sanitation skids.

Marine & Plant Engineer’s Guide: Pro Installation Tips

1) Venting the Seal Cavity Prior to Energization

Centrifugal multi-stage vertical designs trap an air envelope in the upper seal chamber if not explicitly vented. Always loosen the Viton-sealed vent plug located on the top gland plate while filling the suction header. Do not run the motor—even for a momentary rotation check—until clear, bubble-free fluid emerges from the vent port. Dry running a silicon carbide seal face against carbon will induce thermal stress cracking within 30 seconds.

2) Rotational Direction & Motor Lead Termination

The pump must rotate counter-clockwise (CCW) when viewed from the motor fan end down onto the pump coupling. Check your 3-phase wiring terminal assignments in the motor conduit box:

  • For 208–230V Low Voltage: Parallel Star (T1-T7, T2-T8, T3-T9 together, with line leads L1, L2, L3; T4-T5-T6 tied common).
  • For 460V High Voltage: Series Star (L1 to T1, L2 to T2, L3 to T3; link T4 to T7, T5 to T8, and T6 to T9).
If rotation is reversed, reverse any two incoming supply conductors (L1/L2). Reverse rotation will not move significant volume and will quickly cavitate the first-stage impeller.

3) Piping Strain Isolation

Vertical pumps cannot act as pipe anchors. Never pull pipes into alignment using the 2-inch ANSI flange bolts. Thermal expansion and misalignment impart severe bending moments onto the outer 304SS sleeve, causing internal guide bushings to bind against the rotating shaft. Install flexible bellow-type spool connectors or properly aligned hangers within 24 inches of suction and discharge connections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Goulds 10SV2FE4F50 be operated with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)?

Yes. The 2 HP three-phase electric motor can be operated across a standard turn-down speed range using variable frequency pump controls such as the Xylem Aquavar or Hydrovar. Ensure motor line reactors or dV/dt filters are installed if feeder cable lengths from the VFD exceed 50 feet to eliminate high-voltage harmonic spikes.

What is the primary difference between the standard “F” configuration and other e-SV styles?

The “F” designation indicates a pump outfitted with round ANSI Class 150/300 raised-face counter-flanges and an AISI 304 stainless steel fluid end. This contrasts with “T” (threaded oval NPT ports), “N” (high-grade 316SS construction), and “G” (cast-iron hydraulic bases with stainless internals).

Can I change mechanical seal materials if pumping glycol or aggressive fluids?

Yes. The 10SV series features a standardized modular seal pocket. While the 10SV2FE4F50 ships with a standard Viton/Silicon Carbide/Carbon assembly (Goulds part #10K169), EPDM, Kalrez, and pure tungsten carbide seal stacks can be swapped in without modifying the shaft or motor bracket.
