Description

Gardner Denver 5WAG15 Piston Air Compressor WVMACA 7X5

The Gardner Denver 5WAG15 (heavy-duty WVMACA 7X5 core configuration) is an industrial-grade reciprocating piston air compressor for severe continuous duty applications. As maritime engineers, this is one of the design platforms we regularly use for mission critical shipboard and industrial automation systems.

It is a single-to-two stage machine with heavy duty, dry-crankcase design that reduces downstream oil carryover for high-purity air delivery. The basic design incorporates a heat resistant, alloyed filled PTFE guide and compression ring assembly running in finely polished, permanently nickel plated and hardened cylinder bores. This obviates the need for a normal hydrodynamic oil layer in the compression chamber and, thus, dramatically reduces the potential for fouling of the pneumatic lines. It sports Swedish steel reed valves of the highest quality and a balanced cantilevered crankshaft, and it retains high volumetric efficiency under peak thermal loads.

Key Features

  1. Advanced Oil-Less / Low-Oil Compression Chamber: Employs filled PTFE compression rings and dedicated “O” ring pumpers that stop axial ring migration, keeping maintenance cycles extended past 10,000 operational hours.
  2. Hardened Nickel-Plated Cylinders: Permanent nickel plating on the inner cylinder wall structures prevents moisture corrosion and abrasive wear under heavy salt-mist or high-humidity conditions.
  3. Swedish Steel Reed Valves: Plated valve plates and precision-ground reeds manufactured from premium grade Swedish steel ensure rapid cycling and maximum fatigue resistance.
  4. Thermal Isolation Barrier: Features an “Iso-Temp” piston crown coating designed to shield the connecting rod wrist-pin bearings from the direct heat of compression.
  5. Cantilevered Crankshaft Design: Outboard-weighted crankshaft layout yields superior mechanical balance, lessening structural vibration frequencies and eliminating the need for reinforced foundations.

Compatibility with Equipment

  • Base Packages: Directly fits Gardner Denver V & W (PureAir) Series base mounted, tank mounted simplex, and multi-sequencing duplex/triplex packages.
  • Motor Interfacing: Standardized for heavy-duty NEMA premium-efficient frame motors (184T through 254T depending on kW rating).
  • Downstream Integration Matched for operation with Gardner Denver RNC-series refrigerated air dryers and downstream specialized coalescing filter banks.
