Marine Engineer’s Guide:

1. Startup Procedure: Always check that the suction valve is fully open before startup. Positive Displacement Pumps Never start up against a closed discharge valve. Make sure your bypass or relief valve is working so you do not over pressurize.
2. Alignment is Everything: Even when using a pre-mounted baseplate, recheck the alignment of the pump to the motor shaft after final installation onboard. A few microns of misalignment can result in premature seal failure and bearing wear.
3. Cleanliness: While these pumps are tough, they’re finely made. Clean your suction strainers in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule to prevent metallic particles slicing the screw spindles.
4. Mechanical Seal Weep: If you see a little weep at the mechanical seal in the first few hours of operation, don’t panic. Allow a short run-in time. But if it keeps leaking, examine the suction pressure-the seal is supposed to be under suction pressure therefore any air ingress on the vacuum side can cause dry running.
