The Emerson Mobrey S01DB/F84 Level Switch is a world class float switch for horizontal mounting for demanding liquid level alarm and trip systems and essential pump control applications. This side-mounted instrument is known for tough reliability in the most hazardous situations, using a glandless magnetic coupling mechanism to entirely isolate the process medium from the electrical switch compartment. The inherent safe design eliminates leaks, reduces structural maintenance and gives long term operational confidence in a wide range of processing and maritime applications.

The S01DB/F84 is designed to work reliably during process temperature fluctuations vapour pressure or dielectric shifts with a rugged aluminum-bronze body and corrosion resistant 316 stainless steel float. It has a unique snap-action switch design for crisp make-or-break electrical contact functioning without the contact chatter inherent in inferior designs. Installation and Maintenance:

  1. Flange Alignment When bolting the unit to the corresponding Mobrey ‘A’ companion flange make sure the horizontal alignment notches are a perfect fit. If the switch body is rotated out of center a small amount, the balance of the internal magnet is changed and the trigger points can be jumpy.
  2. Tackling Tank Sludge Heavy particle build-up can accumulate on the top of the moving float arm in heavy residual fuel oil or raw waste water applications. Schedule a periodic maintenance window to wipe away heavy sludge accumulation from the interior hinge assembly to prevent mechanical sticking.
  3. Wiring Isolation: Always utilise the available M20 cable entry points to create a drop-loop in your field wiring. This causes the condensation or washdown runoff to trickle from the bottom of the wire loop and not track down exactly inside your IP66 electrical housing cavity.

Engineer’s Insight:

Having overseen numerous overhauls of vessel engine rooms and industrial tank farms, the Mobrey horizontal float series remains my default recommendation where float failure means systemic downtime. The true genius of the S01DB/F84 lies in its glandless architecture. In standard mechanical switches, packing glands dry out over thousands of thermal cycles, leading to product bypass and eventual electronics failure. The Mobrey design bypasses this completely by using opposed permanent magnets across a non-magnetic solid wall.

The F84 general-purpose float is exceptionally rigid, but keep in mind that its minimal fluid specific gravity limit is 0.65. If you are handling specialized light distillates or low-density hydrocarbons, always verify the product’s density charts before installation.
