An Overview and the Main Features:

The Fluke 87V is made to work on tough job sites, where it is both accurate and strong. It can take accurate readings on non-linear loads and adjustable speed motor drives because it has True-RMS AC measurement and superior filtering technology.

This gets rid of problems caused by harmonics and electronic noise. The 87V is great at finding intermittent problems that regular multimeters might overlook since it can catch fast-changing signals with peak capture (down to 250 µs).

How to Measure?

This multimeter can measure voltage up to 1000V AC/DC, current up to 10A (20A for 30 seconds), resistance up to 50 MΩ, frequency up to 200kHz, and capacitance up to 9,999 μF.

It can also test diodes (in the 3V range), check for continuity, and measure conductance up to 60 nS. The built-in thermometer can measure temperatures between -200 °C and 1090 °C directly, utilizing the accompanying 80BK probe, which can measure temperatures between -40 °C and 260 °C.

Its True-RMS accuracy guarantees that the values are accurate, even on waveforms that aren’t regular. This is important for troubleshooting variable frequency drives (VFDs) and other complicated electronics.

Display and Interface

The backlit display is big and easy to read. It has a digital mode with 6000 counts and a high-resolution option with 19,999 counts. A quick analog bar graph refreshes 40 times a second to keep track of signals that change or readings that aren’t consistent. The Touch Hold feature makes it easier to read by freezing the readings, and manual/auto ranging makes it easier to use.

Safety and Durability

Fluke made the 87V to meet CAT III 1000V and CAT IV 600V safety standards for users. It has a one-meter drop rating, so its case and holster keep it safe from drops. It also meets military standards for vibration and humidity. The 87V stays in calibration and has easy access to the battery. It may be used in the field or on a bench anywhere in the world, with a temperature range of -20 °C to +55 °C. Related devices with IP67 ratings are safe from dust and moisture.

Additional Features:

  • Low Pass Filter for checking VFDs
  • Recording of Min/Max/Average
  • Peak capture for recording fast changes
  • Relative reference, auto/manual ranging, and an Input Alert system to advise against making wrong probe connections
  • Lifetime warranty and clearance from numerous agencies (CE, CSA, RCM) provide you piece of mind about your investment.

Accessories that come with it:

The Fluke 87V comes with TL75 or TL175 TwistGuard test leads, AC175 alligator clips, a holster, a 9V battery (already installed), and the 80BK temperature probe. Some premium packages may come with a calibration certificate that can be traced back to standards for regulated businesses.

Uses in Industry:

People who work in electrical maintenance, troubleshooting in factories, HVAC, production lines, R&D labs, and anywhere else where precision and dependability are important use this multimeter. It can measure and analyze power signals in a variety of ways, which makes it useful for control panels, motor repair, inverter-driven systems, and more. The built-in thermometer and longer measurement range make it even more handy in a variety of settings.
