WICHMANN AX Cylinder Liner Water Jacket (Genuine OEM & Premium Surplus)
The WICHMANN AXE Water Jacket is an important part that fits tightly over the cylinder liners of the engine. In heavy-duty marine engines, the liners are exposed to high combustion temperatures. The water jacket provides a pressure boundary and a routeing sleeve for the treated jacket cooling water to flow around the upper and lower portions of the liner to provide uniform thermal contraction and expansion.
Designed for the harsh conditions of fishing boats, coastal freighters and offshore tugs driven by the famous WICHMANN AXE series, this component removes the dangers of scale build-up and localised cavitation. This component maintains the factory cooling profile needed for optimal fuel combustion and ring-pack sealing whether you are replacing a jacket due to galvanic corrosion or performing a comprehensive 20,000-hour engine repair.
High-precision thermal barriers are needed for efficient heat dissipation in medium-speed marine diesel engines. The WICHMANN AXE water jacket is designed to channel cooling around the cylinder liner to avoid thermal distortion and localised hot spots in heavy-duty propulsion and auxiliary schemes.

Key Features
- Optimised Hydrodynamic Flow Profiles Inner jacket geometry is designed to prevent stagnant water pockets, lowering localised boiling and scale formation significantly.
- High Structural Rigidity: Built from superior cast alloys for crack resistance from cyclic heat stress and engine vibration.
- Precision O-Ring Grooves: Machine cut tolerances provide ideal landing faces for modern elastomeric seals to keep cooling water from polluting the crankcase oil.
- Galvanic and Cavitation Resistance: Sacrificial design features shield the inner cylinder liner wall from the destructive pitting forces of high velocity coolant cavitation.
- Drop-In Modular Alignment Direct drop-in fit matching OEM index pins guaranteeing fast vessel turnaround times during drydocking or in water overhauls.
Marine Applications
- Deep-Sea Fishing Trawlers – Main Propulsion Engine Cooling Maintenance under Continuously Variable Load Conditions
- Coastal Tugboats & Workboats: Fast heat transition with no liner deformation for high torque propulsion systems.
- Short-Sea Cargo Vessels. Reliable auxiliary or prime mover units operating to short deadlines in the marine trades.
- Stationary Power Plants Land-based coastal backup generators with legacy blocks WICHMANN AXE.
Guide from our engineer:
- The O-Ring Seating Trick. Never use standard automotive grease on the jacket O-rings; it degrades the rubber compounds prematurely over cyclic heating. Always use a dedicated silicone-based lubricant or pure liquid soap. Ensure the O-rings are completely twist-free in their grooves before lowering the jacket. A single twist will pinch, weep, and eventually force an unscheduled engine shutdown due to water in the oil.
- Chemical Treatment Monitoring. The WICHMANN AX blocks are incredibly durable, but they rely heavily on correct cooling water chemistry. Maintain your nitrite levels between 1500–3000 ppm. Low inhibitor concentration causes rapid cavitation erosion on the inside of the new jacket, which can eat through the metal walls much faster than you think.”
