Engineer Expert’s Guide:
- Suction Strainer Maintenance Always maintain a fine-mesh suction strainer up-stream. Although screw pumps are strong, absorption of hard particulate matter can cause premature wear of the screw sides.
- NPSH Management Ensure that the Net Positive Suction Head Available (NPSHa) is at least 0.5m higher than the NPSH Required (NPSHr) during system design or installation. This helps to prevent cavitation and promotes long term bearing health.
- Startup Procedure: For the first startup, fill the casing with the fluid to be pumped in order to “wet” the pump. Never use the pump dry; the fluid offers lubrication to the idler spindles and the seal faces.
