Marine Engineer’s Insights:

1. Surge Protection is a Must: This is a 3-phase, 400V unit, working in wet or maritime settings, and therefore it must be protected against overvoltage and surge events. Install a Type 2 Surge Protective Device (SPD) on the sub-distribution board within 10 meters of the pump connection point.
2. Oil Tank Inspection: The SiC/SiC mechanical seal is protected by internal paraffin oil chamber. Take a sample of this oil at the annual inspections. If it appears milky, water has passed the primary seal and the mechanical seal assembly should be replaced promptly before liquid gets to the stator windings.
3. Don’t Air Lock: When lowering the pump into a dry pit and filling the pit, air might be trapped in the pump casing. For applications that will experience frequent dry-to-wet cycling, drill a small (2-3 mm) vent hole in the discharge pipe below the check valve.
