The KSB AMA-Drainer A 422 SD/35 is a single-stage, fully floodable vertical submersible motor pump for industry, intended as a close-coupled unit. This heavy duty machine is designed for aggressive dewatering and waste water management with a free-flow (vortex) impeller designed for an open, unrestricted free passage of 35mm. This design can easily handle highly contaminated municipal, industrial and marine waste water containing long fibers, sediments and chemicals prone to bunching or twisting.

The “SD” version is supplied factory with a strong 10-meter power supply line, an integrated motor contactor, a phase inverter and a special float switch for reliable automatic level control, with an integrated three-phase motor with automatic thermal overload protection. The interior architecture is based on 2 mechanical seals with an oil reservoir in between to enhance dry running safety and to increase the operational intervals in harsh bilge, pit or sump conditions.

Marine Engineer Expert’s Guide & Tips:

1. Dynamic Rotation Check: As this is a 3-phase inductive motor, running it backwards will drastically reduce its hydraulic performance and overheat the windings over time. The integrated CSB plug features a built in phase inverter. Before lowering the pump into the pit, run a split-second “kick-start” test on deck. When seen down at the handle the reaction torque should turn the pump clockwise. If it kicks counter-clockwise, use an insulated flat blade screwdriver to spin the phase inverter pins inside the plug housing 180°
2. Thermal management, dry running: The standard “A” version has no external cooling jacket wrapper, so the motor releases its heat directly to the surrounding fluid. The pump is rated for high temperature wash cycles of up to 90°C for up to 3 minutes, but will trip internal thermal switches if run in a continuous fully uncovered, dry-pit state. For continued automatic operation, secure the float switch so that the minimum shut-off height leaves the motor housing at least half submerged.
3. Viscosity & Specific Gravity Adjustments: The $2.2\text{ kW}$ motor is designed for clean or muddy water with fluid density close to 1.0 kg/dm³. If your sludge is of high viscosity or has dense oil emulsions, the current draw will exceed the nominal 4.8A for your application. During first commissioning, always clamp an ammeter onto the phases to ensure that the running current is below the nameplate rating.
