Description

ASAHI/AMERICA S92FSW Electric Actuator

The Asahi/America S92FSW Electric Actuator is a heavy duty quarter turn rotary actuator of the Series 92 “Quarter Master Chief” family. This unique S92FSW model is powered by a low voltage 24 VDC motor design specifically designed for demanding marine, offshore and industrial fluid processing applications. It offers a steady 400 in-lbs (45Nm) of output torque, ideal for mid-sized ball valves, butterfly valves and diaphragm manifold arrangements.

The S92FSW is housed in a rugged, corrosion-resistant NEMA Type 4X die-cast aluminum housing with a thermally bonded powder-coat finish and stainless steel trim that withstands severe salt-spray conditions and harsh washdowns. The machine contains permanently lubricated, Rockwell-hardened alloy steel spur gears, dual 1/2-inch NPT conduit entry for separate power and signal feeds, and a declutchable manual override system.

Main Features

  1. Industrial NEMA Type 4X Enclosure: Heavy duty die-cast aluminum alloy housing with thermally bonded polyester powder coated surface and 300 series stainless steel hardware trim for absolute marine atmospheric protection.
  2. Advanced Gear Train Architecture: Only solid, Rockwell-hardened alloy steel spur gears are used, which are continuously lubricated, fully eliminating the need for periodic grease overhauls.
  3. Declutchable Manual Override: Includes an integrated, safety-first manual override that is enabled by elevating the highly visible beacon position indicator and using a 5/8-inch wrench or the inbuilt handwheel.
  4. Dual Conduit Isolation Layout: Constructed with two independent 1/2 inch NPT conduit entry to fully isolate internal EMI cross feed between control loops, position feedback signals and main DC power lines.

Usage:

  • Marine & Offshore Systems: Ballast water treatment lines, bilge manifolds, brine recirculation and seawater cooling systems on commercial vessels and offshore platforms.
  • Chemical Processing & Handling: Automated handling of high purity or highly corrosive industrial chemicals via plastic and lined valve matrices.
  • Water & Wastewater Treatment Corrosive chemical dosing lines, filtration backwash loops and primary effluent flow modification.
  • Industrial Washdown Environments: Where severe chemical washing agents are actively used in food preparation, pulp and paper production, and cleanroom fluid controls.

Chief Engineer’s Sea-Chest Operational Guidance:

  1. Managing DC Inrush Spikes: When driving the S92FSW using marine PLC output modules, always size your relay contact channels to handle a minimum of 1.5 times the locked-rotor current (4.0 Amps). Fast inductive switching without robust output ratings risks micro-welding relay points in sea-state environments.
  2. Condensation Mitigation: In high-humidity maritime compartments (e.g., lower steering flats, engine rooms), the actuator interior experiences thermal breathing during cycling. We highly recommend upgrading the unit with the optional Relay Heater Module (RHM) card or a dedicated internal 24VDC heater module to permanently suppress atmospheric condensation inside the enclosure.
  3. Safe Manual Operation: Never apply a manual wrench onto the indicator flats while the electrical circuit is energized. Always pull straight up on the highly visible indicator knob to fully disengage the planetary motor drive before adjusting the valve orientation via the flats or handwheel.
