Condition: New – Open Box

Description

Viatran 245X748H Model 245 High Range Pressure Transmitter (250–450 kPa gauge)

The Viatran 245X748H (Model 245) is a precision constructed, heavy duty pressure transmitter designed for sustained performance in the tough industrial, offshore and marine environments. This solid state transmitter is specially ranged from 250 to 450 kPa gage pressure (kPag) and incorporates a DigiComp adjusted sensor core that provides outstanding linearity (≤ ±0.06% FSO), long term stability and low thermal drift.

The 245X748H features a durable 304 stainless steel shell and a black zinc-cobalt/cadmium plated electrical connector that is resistant to extreme vibration, salt spray corrosion, heat shock and pressure spikes. The transmitter features a standard 0 to 5 VDC analog output, runs on an 8 to 30 VDC supply, and connects smoothly with shipboard Alarm Monitoring & Control Systems (AMCS), PLC automation cabinets and hydraulic test benches.

Key Features

  1. High Accuracy & Linearity: Standard non-linearity of ≤ ±0.06% Full Scale Output (FSO) using Best Fit Straight Line (BFSL) methodology for critical process control.
  2. Marine-Grade Stainless Construction: Heavy-duty 304 SS housing paired with high-integrity 15-5 PH / 316 SS wetted components ensures long service life in corrosive environments.
  3. Internal Shunt Calibration Circuit: Includes built-in calibration shorting pins (Pins E & F) generating an 80% FSPR signal for rapid, tool-free loop integrity checks.
  4. Fast Dynamic Response: Millisecond-level response time (< 2 mSec to 90% FSO) allows reliable tracking of rapid hydraulic pulsation and transient pressure spikes.
  5. Electrical Protection: Reversed-polarity input protection, indefinite output short-circuit protection, and transient voltage suppression according to EN 61000-4-5.

Applications

  • Marine & Shipboard Systems: Main engine jacket cooling water loops, lubricating oil headers, auxiliary seawater systems, fuel oil supply lines, and ballast tank pressure monitoring.
  • Hydraulic & Pneumatic Test Benches: Precision pressure measurements in dynamic fluid power testing, valve test stands, and actuator feedback control.
  • Offshore Oil & Gas Operations: Platform utility gas management, blowout preventer (BOP) control loops, mud pump pressure monitoring, and separator vessel telemetry.
  • Industrial Plant Automation: Steam boiler feed lines, chemical dosing loops, cooling towers, and closed-loop process automation connected to Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, or ABB PLCs.

Field Installation Checklist

  • Connector Sealing & Strain Relief: Always use the recommended mating plug (Bendix PT06E-10-6S with strain relief). In shipboard environments where high-pressure washdowns or bilgewater spray occur, apply a thin bead of dielectric silicone grease around the bayonet connector seal interface.
  • Preventing Earth Loops: Ensure the transmitter chassis is bonded to local structural ground, but isolate signal cable shielding at the PLC/DAQ panel end only. Connecting shield grounds on both ends creates ground loops that introduce 50/60 Hz ripple into the 0-5 VDC signal line.
  • Pulsation Dampening: When installing the unit on fuel oil supply manifolds or high-pressure positive displacement pump discharges, install a snubber or needle valve upstream of the 1/4″ port. Hydraulic shock waves (water hammer) can exceed the transmitter’s proof pressure instantly, causing zero-shift or diaphragm rupture.
  • Shunt Calibration Verification: Utilizing the built-in Shunt Cal (Pins E & F) allows engineers to perform field span validation without carrying a heavy pneumatic deadweight tester into the machinery spaces. Shorting Pin E to Pin F drops an internal precision resistor across the bridge, outputting exactly 80% FSO (4.0 VDC). If your controller reads outside 3.98–4.02 VDC during this test, inspect the wiring for resistance degradation or perform a zero adjustment

Compatibility

The Viatran 245X748H is compatible with any industrial controller, data acquisition card, or monitoring panel accepting a 0–5 VDC analog signal across an 8–30 VDC loop power architecture:

  • PLC Systems: Siemens S7-1200 / S7-1500 (Analog Input Module AI 8xU), Allen-Bradley CompactLogix / ControlLogix (1769-IF4), Mitsubishi MELSEC, Schneider Electric Modicon.
  • Shipboard Alarm Systems: Kongsberg K-Chief, Noris NORISYS 4, Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum, CSI SmartSip monitoring panels.
  • Digital Indicators & Displays: Viatran PW Series 1/8 DIN digital indicators, Laurel Electronics indicators, Red Lion PAX panel meters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the pressure range and output signal of the Viatran 245X748H?

The Viatran 245X748H model is configured for a gauge pressure range of 250 to 450 kPa (250-450 kPag) and produces a high-accuracy 0 to 5 VDC linear analog output signal across an 8 to 30 VDC supply voltage.

How do I wire the Bendix 6-pin electrical connector on the Model 245?

The pin-out allocation for the standard Bendix PT02E-10-6P connector on the Viatran Model 245 is:

  • Pin A: + Power Supply Positive
  • Pin B: – Power Ground / Common
  • Pin C: + Signal Output Positive (0-5VDC)
  • Pin D: – Signal Output Ground / Reference
  • Pins E & F: Shunt Calibration terminals (shorting these pins simulates an 80% FSO calibration signal).

Can this pressure transmitter be used with seawater or hydraulic oil?

Yes. The wetted parts of the Viatran Model 245 are manufactured from high-grade stainless steel (15-5 PH / 316 SS), offering excellent compatibility with hydraulic oils, fresh water, inert gases, light fuels, and treated cooling fluids. For direct untreated raw seawater applications, ensure proper flushing or use an isolation diaphragm if required by marine class societies.

How does the Shunt Calibration feature work on the Viatran 245?

The Shunt Calibration circuit allows field technicians to verify system calibration without applying an external pressure source. Shorting Pins E and F inserts an internal precision resistor across the sensing bridge, shifting the output to exactly 80% of Full Scale Pressure Range (4.0 VDC). This tests the entire electrical loop and controller scaling instantly.
