In the Experion PKS Series C I/O architecture, the Honeywell CC-PAIX02 serves as a High-Level Analogue Input (HLAI) module. It takes signals from field sensors that are 4–20 mA or 1–5 V and changes them into digital data that the C300 controller can use. This module connects directly to Woodward governors and Wärtsilä UNIC engine control units in marine power management systems. It shows you the locations of the fuel racks, the pressure of the scavenged air, and the temperatures of the lubricants in real time throughout the entire Honeywell Safety Manager architecture.
The CC-PAIX02 is made to work with the 60Hz harmonic distortion that is common in diesel-electric propulsion grids. There is a lot of high-frequency vibration in Category A engine room zones, yet it still fits in with Class 0.1. The conformal coating on the module stops salt mist from ionizing between the terminal pins. This protection is very important if the gadget is put in an area that isn’t controlled.

Our Engineer’s Tips:
A frequent failure on older hulls is “terminal creep” caused by constant low-frequency engine resonance. This vibration causes the stranded copper wire to compress within the screw clamp over time. This leads to a high-resistance connection that generates intermittent “Bad PV” alarms. The module may report a hardware fault when the actual issue is a millivolt drop at the IOTA interface. Technicians should look for microscopic carbon dusting around the wire entry point. This is a primary indicator of arcing due to loose terminations.
System-Wide Integration:
The CC-PAIX02 has a shared backplane, which makes it easy for ground loops to happen through the steel hull. Make sure that the 4-20mA shields are only connected at the IOTA end. Don’t ever ground the shield at the field transmitter of a ship. If a module loses communication, use the “Degrade Mode” logic in the C300 controller to deal with it. This logic should tell non-critical sensors to “Freeze Last Value.” Set the system to default to a “Fail-Safe High” state for propulsion interlocks. This stops the loss of one module from causing an emergency engine shutdown in rough seas.
