Description

Honeywell CC-PAOX01 High Level Analog Output Module (HART)

The Honeywell CC-PAOX01 provides 16 channels of High-Level Analog Output (HLAO) with integrated Highway Addressable Remote Transducer (HART) digital communication. This Series C module functions as the primary interface between the Experion PKS controller and field actuators like Fisher DVC6200 positioners or ABB I/P converters. It mounts directly onto the CC-TPOX01 or CC-TPOX11 I/O Termination Assembly (IOTA). The module executes 4-20mA signal delivery while simultaneously extracting secondary HART variables for asset management systems.

In marine propulsion and auxiliary control, the Series C architecture of the CC-PAOX01 minimizes the physical footprint within congested ECR (Engine Control Room) cabinets. The 24V DC field-powered design maintains loop integrity over long cable runs, negating signal attenuation between the automation bridge and the machinery space. For ETOs managing chemical tankers or LNG carriers, this module is the standard for localized high-density I/O where galvanic isolation of 1500V DC is a non-negotiable safety requirement.

Where to Use – Applications:

1) Hazardous Zone Isolation (LNG/LPG): The CC-PAOX01 is an important galvanic bulkhead for cryogenic manifold positioners. Its 1500V DC isolation barrier is designed to stop transient spikes, which stops “crosstalk” from the engine room power bus from getting into inherently safe cargo zones during hazardous liquid transfers.
2) Grid Noise Mitigation (Propulsion): This module stabilises fuel rack actuators in diesel-electric plants by actively reducing Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and 60Hz “jitter.” This is important for keeping the governor accurate when high-capacity Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) add a lot of switching noise to the vessel’s local grid.
3) Managing heat (Offshore FPSO): The Series C vertical design uses passive chimney-effect convection to fight the “oven effect” in containerised E-houses. This thermal stability stops signal drift in high-pressure separator dump valves, which keeps setpoints the same over long periods of time.
4) Atmospheric Resilience (Refineries): The module has a 12-bit DAC resolution that gets rid of “stair-step” hunting in steam turbine bypass valves and gives a linear response curve. At the same time, its conformal-coated PCB is the main way to stop copper dendrites from growing in places where there is a lot of H_2S and sulphur in the air.

Technical Maintenance Schedule by NDMarineTech

  • Use a calibrated 1.5Nm-rated precision torque driver to tighten all of the IOTA terminal’s screws to 0.5Nm. This will protect them from coming free when they shake.
  • Use a 10x LED jeweler’s loupe to look at the 20-pin Hirose connector pins and see if any of the contacts are bent or discolored.
When in “Source” mode, use a Fluke 789 Process Meter to check that the loop current is correct on all 16 channels.
  • Use a lint-free, anti-static cloth that has been dampened with 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean the gold-finger contacts on the Series C backplane.
  • Use the Honeywell Experion Control Builder suite to save the current settings and firmware versions for the HART device and module.
  • To keep the Class 1.0 signal accuracy, calibrate the analog output DAC (digital-to-analog converter) every two years.
  • Unplug the CC-PAOX01 and use a Megger at 250VDC to check the insulation on the field wire to determine if the cable jacket is breaking down.
