KUKA KPS-600/20-ESC Power Supply Unit | KR C2 Robot Parts

Description

KUKA KPS-600/20-ESC Power Supply Unit

The KUKA KPS-600/20-ESC is a high-performance power supply unit for the KUKA KR C2 family of robot controllers. The Electronic Service Center (ESC) is the core of the robot’s electrical system. This variation converts the input mains power into stable DC voltages for the logic circuits, for communicating with the peripherals, and for controlling the motor brakes.

Your robotic cell will be operating in harsh industrial environments with unstable power grids. The KPS-600/20-ESC is a crucial element in automated manufacturing, offering exceptional thermal stability and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

Guidance from Our Engineer:

The KPS-600/20-ESC as solid as a tank but is sensitive to “dirty” electricity. The most common source of failure from  marine and industrial engineering standpoint is not the transformer itself, but the DC filter capacitors which can dry up after years of 24/7 operation.

Pro Tips for Longevity:

  1. Check Your Grounding: Ensure your PE (Protective Earth) connections are corrosion-free. High impedance on the ground line can cause the ESC logic to trigger nuisance Safety Circuit faults.
  2. Thermal Imaging: During your quarterly PM (Preventative Maintenance), hit the unit with a thermal camera. If the internal temperatures exceed 65°C while the cabinet is vented, your internal airflow might be restricted.
  3. The 27V Rule: If you see the controller logic cycling or failing to boot, measure the output at the X1 interface. If it drops below 26.2V DC, the PSU is likely failing and should be refurbished before it damages the motherboard.
