Allen-Bradley 1747-L542 SLC 5/04 Processor Module
SLC 500 The Allen-Bradley 1747-L542 is a high performance CPU module of the well known family SLC 500. It is in fact the SLC 5/04 processor. This unit is built for rugged industrial control and features 32K words of battery backed RAM memory, making it a great solution for medium to large automation applications. As a maritime engineer, I’ve seen these processors successfully operate in tough, vibration-prone situations, consistently performing in machine control, material handling, and process automation. It is a vintage component, but its built-in Data Highway Plus (DH+) and RS-232 communications interfaces connect seamlessly with legacy control networks of the past and hybrid systems of today.

Usage:
- Marine & Offshore Automation Reliable control for ship ballast systems, engine monitoring and deck machinery.
- Manufacturing: Ideal for assembly lines requiring precision timing and rapid I/O response.
- Process Control: Perfect for food/beverage and water treatment plants requiring accurate analog scaling and PID control.
- Material Handling: Handles complicated sorting, conveyor and palletizing logic.
Compatibility
- Compatibility: Fully compatible with all standard SLC 500 1746-series I/O modules and chassis. Supports RSLogix 500 programming software.
- Condition: New / Unused Surplus.
Guide for Long Service life:
- Battery Management The 1747-L542 uses a lithium battery to retain your software and data throughout power cycles. Pro Tip: Change this battery with PLC powered on to prevent memory loss. I would recommend a 24 month preventative maintenance regimen.
- Processor Placement: Place the processor in Slot 0 (the leftmost slot). This is a physical necessity of communicating on backplanes.
- Communication Cable: If you are utilizing the RS-232 port for programming, make sure you have the right 1747-CP3 cable. Many communications problems are simply bad serial cables or wrong adaptor settings in RSLogix.
- Electrostatic Safety Use a grounded wrist strap before touching the module. These older CMOS circuits are susceptible to static discharge.
- Offline Backups: This module is part of a mature/discontinued product line, thus always keep at least two offline digital backups of your program code on separate storage media.
