AB Sciex 5036646 ExionLC 5-Channel Degasser Module

The AB Sciex 5036646 ExionLC 5-Channel Degasser is a specialized fluidic conditioning module that is used in automated systems for analyzing fuel and monitoring pollutants. It connects directly to 24VDC control backplanes and talks to upstream PLC architectures like the Honeywell Safety Manager or Schneider Acti9 power distribution blocks using standard RS-232 or Modbus protocols. The unit takes out dissolved gases from liquid streams so that cavitation and signal noise don’t happen in high-pressure sensor arrays.

The ABDG55974396 was made for use in the ocean. It has a strengthened vacuum chamber housing that can handle engine harmonics from 5Hz to 100Hz. The internal power regulation circuit filters out transient voltage spikes that happen a lot in 60Hz vessel grids when the thrusters are working hard. Engineering Insight: Field Failure Modes

A common field failure involves “O-ring stiction” within the five-channel manifold due to stagnant, sulfur-heavy fuel vapors. This leads to vacuum leaks that trigger false “Low Flow” alarms on the bridge console. In high-vibration zones, the internal ribbon cable connectors can suffer from fretting corrosion. This manifests as intermittent 4-20mA signal jumping. Use a DeoxIT D5 contact cleaner on the header pins during every dry-docking interval.

Proper grounding is critical to avoid “ground loops” through the steel hull when integrating the RS-232 data link. Always terminate the cable shield at the PLC cabinet end only. If the internal vacuum pump fails, the system logic should be programmed for “Degrade Mode.” This forces a bypass valve to open, maintaining fluid flow to the engine while sacrificing analytical precision to ensure vessel propulsion is never compromised. The unit remains operational up to 50°C before thermal throttling occurs.
