Westing Electric GCA630 Contactor Style 2045A45G01 Size 6 AC Contactor
This is a NEMA Size 6 AC magnetic contactor from Westing Electric. The purpose of this device is to start and control big AC motors. The unit’s modular design makes it easy to check contacts and replace coils without having to take the whole thing apart from the mounting panel.
The GCA630 is built to handle high-current loads thanks to its strong arc-quenching system. This means that the silver-alloy contacts will stay strong even when they are under a lot of stress, like when they are cycling quickly or when they are inductive loads. This contactor has the mechanical strength to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, whether you’re running big ballast pumps on a ship or heavy crushers in a mine. This size 6 AC contactor is made for heavy-duty jobs where downtime isn’t just annoying; it’s a huge financial risk.

Marine Engineer’s Maintenance Guide
Field notes for ensuring a 20-year service life.
- Quarterly Contact Inspection: Open the arc chutes and inspect the contact surfaces. Never file silver-cadmium contacts. Small pits and discoloration are normal; however, if you see significant beads of melted metal or if the contact thickness is reduced by 50%, replace the entire set.
- Coil Continuity & Heat Check: Check the coil for signs of “browning” or brittle insulation. Use an infrared thermometer during operation; a coil running significantly hotter than its rated temperature often indicates a mechanical obstruction in the armature or incorrect voltage supply.
- Archive Chute Integrity: Ensure the arc chutes are clear of carbon dust. In marine environments, salt air can combine with carbon dust to create a conductive path, leading to phase-to-phase shorts. Blow out the assembly with dry, low-pressure compressed air.
