Mitsubishi FX5U-32MT/ESS MELSEC iQ-F Programmable Controller
The Mitsubishi FX5U-32MT/ESS is a major member of the MELSEC iQ-F family, providing the next generation of compact control for automation applications with demanding requirements. This CPU module bridges the gap between simple micro-controllers and complex modular PLCs with a lightning fast execution speed of 34 ns per basic command.
It features 16 built-in 24V DC inputs (Sink/Source) and 16 Transistor Source outputs, ideal for high-speed, high-precision positioning and switching applications. Its Ethernet, RS-485 and analog capabilities make it a powerful hub for modern network design and is built for the demanding, zero-fail situations of industrial production, processing plants and maritime control systems.

Marine Engineer’s Guide:
When deploying the FX5U-32MT/ESS in high-vibration environments—such as marine engine rooms or offshore drilling platforms—the mechanical stability of your control panel is paramount.
Although this unit supports standard 35mm DIN rail mounting, we strongly advise using the integrated direct-mounting screw holes in high-vibration applications to prevent micro-fretting corrosion on terminal connections.
How to Install?
- Output Protection: The transistor outputs on this unit are “Source” type logic (ESS notation). If you are switching inductive loads like heavy solenoids, always install an external flyback diode across the DC load. This absorbs inductive spikes and protects the internal transistors from premature voltage breakdown.
- Grounding Protocols: The FX5U features an isolated functional ground (FG) terminal. Ensure this is connected via a dedicated, low-impedance strap directly to your common structural ground. Never daisy-chain this ground line with variable frequency drives (VFDs) or heavy switched-mode power supplies to avoid high-frequency noise from corrupting your analog inputs.
- Firmware Matching: If you are swapping an older revision FX5U with a new replacement unit, always upload the configuration using GX Works3 to verify firmware compatibility, especially if you utilize the built-in Ethernet/IP or Modbus TCP communication matrices.
