Description

A-Tech Co. AT 10P 1400SR Marine Radial Piston Air Motor (104 PS / 76.5 kW)

The A-Tech Co. AT 10P 1400SR is a radial piston pneumatic motor engineered for demanding offshore and marine deck applications. Designed and built in South Korea, this unit delivers a continuous mechanical rating of 104 PS (76.5 kW) at 1,400 RPM under a standard marine working air pressure of 0.6 MPa (6 bar / 87 PSI).

Unlike high-speed vane alternatives, the AT 10P utilizes a multi-cylinder radial piston geometry that produces massive starting breakaway torque and smooth low-speed spooling without requiring an immediate reduction gearbox stage. Encased in a marine-grade cast-iron crankcase, the motor withstands aggressive marine atmospheres, wash-down spray, and continuous cyclic loading found in shipboard mooring winches, cargo hose reels, windlass systems, and gravity lifeboat/gangway davits. Inherently spark-free and thermally stable, it operates reliably in hazardous Zone 1/Zone 2 deck environments where electric squirrel-cage motors pose an ignition risk.

Features

  1. Bi-Directional Operation: Integrated balanced rotary distribution valve enables instantaneous forward and reverse switching via external 4-way valve pilot controls without structural stress or loss of displacement.
  2. 100% Spark-Free / Non-Electrical: Fully pneumatic drive architecture provides natural thermal self-cooling as compressed air expands during work, ensuring complete safety in hazardous open-deck and gas tanker operations.
  3. Continuous Stall-Proof Operation: Capable of being stalled infinitely at maximum system pressure without thermal burnout, mechanical degradation, or short-circuit risk.
  4. Heavy-Duty Marine Metallurgy: Cast iron (FCD) casing with salt-resistant epoxy exterior, nitrided piston sleeves, and labyrinth seals on the output shaft protects against abrasive sea spray and ingress.

Direct Equipment Compatibility

  • Deck Winches & Windlasses: Compatible with Fukushima, MacGregor, Mitsui, and Tsuji mooring and anchor windlasses.
  • Lifeboat & Davit Launch Systems: Direct match for Korean and Japanese gravity davits (Jung-A Marine, Samgong Co., Sekigahara Seisakusho, Oriental Precision).
  • Bunker & Hose Handling Cranes: Drives hoists, swing mechanisms, and slewing rings on heavy deck cranes.
  • Engine Starting & Turning Gear: Serves as the auxiliary pneumatic drive unit for large 2-stroke low-speed crosshead diesel engine turning gears (MAN B&W, WinGD).

Applications

  • Tension mooring winches and emergency wire pullers
  • Chemical tanker / LNG deck cranes and fuel transfer hose reels
  • Heavy offshore blowout preventer (BOP) hoists and top drive auxiliaries
  • Underground mining conveyers and explosion-proof mixing agitators

Our Chief Engineer’s Guide

1) Air Line Piping & Flow Restrictions

Engineer’s Insight: An air motor never delivers its nameplate power if your upstream distribution lines are choked. To draw the full 104 PS from the AT 10P 1400SR, you must supply up to 84 Nm³/min. Ensure your supply feed pipe is at least 2″ (50A) nominal bore; dropping to a 1″ or 1-1/4″ rubber hose will induce severe friction drop, causing working pressure at the motor inlet to plummet below 4.5 bar under full winch pull.

2) Upstream Moisture & Air Treatment

Always install a high-capacity bulk water separator and a 40-micron particulate filter within 3 meters of the inlet flange.

Deck air headers accumulate condensation and rust scale during ocean transit. Prior to coupling the motor, blow down the deck air line to atmosphere for 60 seconds to purge residual moisture, slag, and pipe scale.

3) Lubrication Dosage Rates

Radial piston motors cannot run on bone-dry instrumentation air. The crankshaft, connecting rod journals, and cylinder sleeves require continuous mist lubrication.

Set the inline lubricator to deliver 3 to 4 drops per minute of non-detergent ISO VG 32 or ISO VG 46 anti-wear air tool oil for every 1.0 m³/min of air. Under heavy duty cycles, check the crankcase oil sight-glass daily; keep the sump filled to the midline with synthetic marine gear oil (ISO VG 150/220).

4) Backpressure & Exhaust Silencing

Radial piston efficiency depends on differential pressure across the distributor. Never restrict the exhaust line. If extending the exhaust away from operator stations, upsize the exhaust piping to at least 3″ (80A) to eliminate backpressure buildup that can rob up to 18% of rated output torque.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the exact output rating of the A-Tech Co. AT 10P 1400SR?

The AT 10P 1400SR delivers a rated mechanical power output of 104 PS (approximately 76.5 kW or 102.6 HP) at 1,400 RPM under a standard compressed air feed of 0.6 MPa (6 bar / 87 PSI).

Can this motor run continuously in explosive or hazardous marine areas?

Yes. The A-Tech AT 10P operates purely on pneumatic power with no electrical wiring, coils, or sparking commutators. It is naturally explosion-proof and compliant with ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2 requirements for oil tanker decks, LNG cargo manifolds, and offshore drilling platforms.

How does the AT 10P 1400SR compare to a vane air motor of equivalent power?

Vane motors run at much higher speeds (3,000–6,000 RPM) and lower starting torque, requiring complex reduction gearboxes that are prone to wear under shock loads. The AT 10P uses a multi-cylinder radial piston layout that generates superior starting torque (680 N·m) and handles sudden stalls without damage, making it far better suited for winches and heavy hoisting.

What causes an air motor to lose power or run below rated RPM?

The two most frequent causes are upstream pressure drop and moisture/ice buildup in the exhaust. If the supply line bore is undersized, pressure at the inlet drops under load. Furthermore, adiabatic expansion cools the compressed air; if water traps are not drained, freezing moisture can choke the exhaust silencer.

What routine maintenance is required on the AT 10P 1400SR?

Check the crankcase oil level sight glass before each operation, drain the upstream air line water trap daily, verify the lubricator reservoir level, and ensure the inline oiler drops 3–4 drops per minute during running. Inspect mounting bolts and shaft alignment during routine drydock surveys.
